Authentic Connection

“This is the message God has given us to pass on to you: that God is Light and in Him is no darkness at all. So if we say we are His friends but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin, we are lying. But if we are living in the light of God’s presence, just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and joy with each other, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from every sin.” – 1 John 1:5-7 (TLB)

Jesus longs for us to have a true authentic relationship with Him. He doesn’t expect us to be perfect – He took care of the perfect part for us. He just wants us to be open and honest with Him. He desires intimacy with us. Heart-to-heart connection, where we allow Him into every area of our life. Nothing being off limit from Him.

Because of His great love for us, He encourages us to let our guard down. To take off the masks we’ve been wearing. To tear down the walls we’ve built up. He calls us to drop the façade that we can often carry, that everything is okay, and wants us to pour out to Him where we’re really at.

He continually allows light to shine on the dark areas that we’re trying to cover up. Not out of a legalistic way to let us know we’re doing something wrong… again. But out of the heart cry of love for us, He wants to remove all that makes a barrier between Him and us. The world assumes that intimacy happens in the dark, but God exposes our true hearts by shining His light on areas that need to be addressed. He brings intimacy out into the light. What we expose to Him, He covers with His blood. He heals. He binds. He restores. He redeems. The light is where we stand unashamed before Him, confident in Who He is and what He’s done on our behalf. The light is where He changes us. The light is where He makes us new, where authentic connection with Him is truly built. It’s where we experience real communion with Him, and joy overwhelms us in His presence.

Let’s not buy into the lie that when we face what’s hidden in the dark, that Jesus can’t fix it. Regardless of whatever it is we’ve done or are ashamed about, Jesus is our miracle working God. Believe today that living in the light of His love is the best place for us to be.
