“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves in the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” – Romans 13:11-14 (NIV)
The promise of the return of Christ hovers over all followers of Jesus. We should be ready and excited for the day approaching for when He will return. We must not be lulled to sleep by the influence of the world and culture of the day, forgetting the Kingdom purpose that we each have been given. But rather, we should be fully awake to what is going on, wearing the armour of light, since we are not exempt as Christians from the warfare from the powers of darkness. The holy armour we’ve been given, through Christ and the power of His Spirit, equips us to stand against the enemy’s schemes. Choosing to clothe ourselves in the Lord Jesus Christ, ensures that we understand the battle we’re in and that we fight from a stance of victory under the authority and power of the name of Jesus our Lord and King.
Clothing ourselves in Christ, presents a picture of us becoming like Him. Of us walking in His ways. In tune with His Words, and His Spirit. It’s making a daily commitment to the lordship of Christ and continually reckoning ourselves dead to sin and alive to His will. We relinquish the need to gratify our flesh when we indulge ourselves in the love of God.
May we wear the armour of light proudly, clothed by His goodness because we are women who desire Him and love Him more than we choose our own ways. May we be diligent in praying that our desires would be aligned with His, and that we would be women who are wide awake to the present time and what God is doing in and through us.
