As I was reading my devotional this morning, I was reminded of how important it is to remain on high alert. As Christians, the devil is out to steal, deceive and make our lives miserable, simply because we want to do the will of God and be lights in our communities. In a time when so many feel that they are “woke”, my fear is that they are the ones who truly slumber deepest, and painfully don't even realize it. If we are not seeing things/circumstances through the lenses of our Bible and the words of our Lord, following what the masses are doing is actually the opposite of what we should be doing as Believers in Jesus Christ. We are called to look different and BE different and to recognize that our home is not of this world. We are not supposed to blend in. We are supposed to look and sound different, which causes others to take note of who we are and what we do, because it’s unusual. When others look at you, they should see Jesus, through your love, empathy and compassion, as well as your joy, peace and strength. Others should leave at the very least wondering what’s different about you?! This is a question I have been mulling over for quite some time... what do others see when they meet me? Better yet, what is the positioning of my heart.. who is it that I want to bring glory to? Me? Or Jesus? That’s another lie of the devil, in which he wants us to elevate ourselves over others. 1 Peter 5:8-9 instructs us to: -Be self controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. -Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. The devil brings nothing but deception and confusion, and God counteracts those negative thoughts and feelings with providing restoration and strength (vs. 10). God is our comforter, provider and giver of grace. Let's draw near to Him and be on high alert.
