All Things Small

How often do we underestimate the value of small things? The impact that small things can have in our lives over a period of time is substantial. One small thing, building on another, and eventually the small adds up to a large result.

Let’s take trees as an example – regardless of how tall and mature a tree may be today, every single tree started off the exact same way. A tiny, unimpressive seed. For a long time, the seed remains buried under dirt, in the dark, with the appearance of no growth. But just like how God designed so much of His creation, what may start small doesn’t stay that way.

Our lives are full of moments where seeds are planted in us. Small moments. Small bits of Truth. Small extensions of love. Small amounts of courage. A seed here and a seed there… impactful seeds taking root in our lives. We may not see much initially, but as we allow God to cultivate His work in our lives, over time the impact grows. Nurturing our hearts and minds with His Word and hydrating our thirsty souls with His Spirit. He changes us. Developing in us who He created us to be.

A mustard seed is considered to be the smallest, most minuscule seed in the plant kingdom. An unimpressive tiny seed that grows tall and wide. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

What a difference small can make!

Let’s celebrate all things small today. What small things are you trusting God with? What small changes are you making in your life to better improve your future? Small matters. Let’s not forget how great an impact the ‘small’ can have in the hands of a great and powerful God.
