One of my favourite things, is hearing people’s testimonies. Even more so, is when a person’s testimony is in the form of a book… where it’s not rushed or under a time constraint of a church service. Turning the pages of their story, as if walking with them on their journey, to where they came to meet Jesus… hearing how God interrupted the life they were living for themselves, instead of for Him - those are the best stories to read.
Maybe it’s because I love a good love story, or because I love Hallmark movies that are predictable and always end the way they should end… but there’s a moment in a person’s testimony that I wait for with anticipation. It’s the beautiful moment when a person shares the revelation of who they were or the circumstance they were in, they’re on the cusp of grabbing hold of the redemption that only Jesus can give… and then it happens…the turning point: they realize their need for a Saviour. I cry. Every. Single. Time! Mostly because I internalize my own life and can relate to the feeling of being in desperate need of Jesus. Can you relate too?
“Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others He has redeemed you from your enemies.”– Psalm 107:2
When’s the last time you told your story?
Is it a regular thing for you, or has it been awhile?
Our stories matter. No matter how big or small we think they are, or how incredible or insignificant we perceive them to be. They’re important in sharing the hope we have in Jesus. But also, they’re important because people relate to stories so easily. That’s likely why Jesus taught by telling parables… stories draw people in to hear more, and often put themselves in the narrative.
The NIV translation says it this way…”Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story.”
Have you been redeemed? If so… then you have a story to tell.
Let’s commit to take the time to share our story with someone, the next opportunity we have. And may we “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks us to give the reason for the hope that we have. Doing so with gentleness and respect.” – 1 Peter 3:15
