We live in a society that seems to salivate over influencers – craving to be someone who leads others by their popularity and powered by the number of Likes they get.
While influence itself is not a bad thing - things can get crazy, and even a little scary, when we consider what our influence leads to. Our lives, whether we mean to or not, have great influence on others… we lead people whether we carry a title of “Leader” or not. Whether people are watching from afar or have a front seat to the way we live.
What we think, say, and do impacts and influences those around us. And as Jesus-followers we have a calling to lead others to Jesus.
Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth, calls them to “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 11:1 (NIV)
This is a pretty heavy statement for Jesus-followers when you think about it… not to add pressure by any means, cause that’s not what Grace does, but our lives are to be a reflection of Jesus… meaning they should look different from how they used to look. It certainly calls for reflection… Is that the life that I’m currently living? Do people see a reflection of Jesus when they observe my life?
While it’s Jesus’ job to do the saving, and the Holy Spirit’s job to lead people to repentance, it’s our responsibility to point people to Jesus through our daily living… THIS is how we’re to be a life of influence. Pretty amazing how God uses us! All of us…and how Jesus has changed us. Our story matters and needs to be shared. The transformational work of Jesus in our lives, is our living testimony… the life of influence that we’re called to live. May we be women who reflect the life of Jesus and draw others to Him by our influence.
“Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you’re living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy.” – 1Peter 3:15 (MSG)
