A Beautiful Church

“It takes a grinding wheel to sharpen a blade, and so one person sharpens the character of another.” – Proverbs 27:17 (TPT)

We need each other… especially in the Church!

How boring would it be if everyone was the same way? Thought the same. Talked the same. Acted the same. Talk about boring! Wouldn’t that scenario just appear so robotic?

God created us all unique, made in His image and intricately fashioned to be just who He designed us to be. He made us all so very different and His plan for all of us to be united as His Church was no mistake. Each unique quality and characteristic that is a reflection of Him is meant to be a beautiful complement to our brothers and sisters in Christ, who hold vastly different echoes of our Creator. There is no error in the body of Christ. And we need one another to grow, to love like Jesus, and to learn from one another. It certainly isn’t always easy to love each other, but like any relationship we long to have, it takes work and time and often lots of prayer.

Something that I’ve found very helpful in loving my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially when they wouldn’t be someone I’m naturally drawn to, is to pray to see them through Jesus’ eyes. I ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to me something that God is crazy about that person for… what does He see in them that I haven’t seen yet? And I ask the Holy Spirit to help me love them. And when I pray aligned with the Word of God, for help loving my brother and sister in Christ, my eyes change to see the fingerprints of God all over them. In turn, they also change me… even if they don’t know it. They teach me knew sides of God’s character, as they too mirror characteristics of Him.

We would be nothing without Jesus. He is the love that keeps us rooted together. It is by Him alone that we will ever be unified for His second coming. It is all because of Him that we have the Church. Each one important. Each one needed. Each one with characteristics that help sharpen the countenance of someone else.

What a beautiful Church He’s given us!

What a beautiful Church Jesus is coming back for!
